Blanket Drive for Kzn Flood Victims |

We ran a winter warmer campaign for KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) flood victims from two villages in Pietermaritzburg. We identified 67 elderly women and unemployed women served by the Maqongqo Village's Table Mountain Community Service Centre and Zulu Christian Church of Dumisa Circuit at Henley Dam. Unfortunately, we fell short of our goal and were able to gift only 40 of them with blankets. Additionally, we hosted a knitting workshop on July 29-30, 2023, to teach rural women how to make these chunky wool blankets. Our objective was not only to donate but to empower the unemployed women with a valuable skill that can help them put food on the table for their families and keep the elderly mobile. As The African Monarch Group, our mission is to provide training, resources, and support to disadvantaged communities across South Africa. We plan to collaborate with likeminded organizations to broaden our reach and achieve our objectives of fostering sustainable growth within these communities. Our ultimate goal is to develop programs such as the Grow Your Own Food Program and Sewing Schools that will enable the elderly to remain mobile and teach unemployed women to become self-sufficient, thereby inspiring active participation from community members instead of relying exclusively on grants. |
